HOW DID WE HELP?
Initially Glass sliding doors were used to separate the corridors, but this was not acceptable within the fire strategy. Rather than replace the sliding doors with fire doors, Coopers Vii Fire fire curtains were installed on the opposite side to be activated in conjunction with the fire alarm.
The curtains were set to a split drop to achieve a protection from fire and smoke spread, to allow hospital beds to evacuate the building before descending to their full operational position as a fire barrier.
Emergency egress buttons were added as a precaution, to allow anyone trapped behind the curtain to escape.
The Coopers Fire Vii Fire fire curtains were installed by 7 Code, our distributor partners in Georgia – www.7code.org
BENEFITS
The main benefit of the Vii Fire fire curtains used at American Hospital is to provide smoke control and stop the spread of fire within the hospital, allowing patients to safely evacuate the building.
The added advantage was the Vii Fire was in keeping with the open corridor modern feel of the interior fit out.
The alternative to have fire doors, which would narrow the corridors and be subject to wear and tear, was not desirable for the Directors of American Hospital in place with modern tall building construction.
