what was the client looking for?
International Gulf Trading Company, IGTC, are Coopers Fire’s distributor in the State of Qatar and recently installed fire curtains in the Leabaib Health Centre in Doha, Qatar. IGTC worked with the local consultants, Dar Al-Handasah and were employed by the main contractors, Boom Construction Company. This state of the art, open plan health centre required a range of products. There were two Vii Fire i-Zone fire curtains fitted over pharmacy counter windows and a 10m wide vertical FireMaster fire curtain acting as a fire break between the main reception counters and the entrance atrium. Finally, installed around the atrium was a 23m x 5m rectangular, closed FireMaster Concertina fire curtain.
Concertina is the first of its kind installed in the State of Qatar and one of the largest installed in the Middle East. The Concertina is installed on the first floor around the reception atrium and provides a fire break between the ground floor and first floor. The Concertina was used instead of fire rated glazing on the first floor around the atrium, thus creating a more open plan design with a greater feeling of light and space.
HOW DID WE HELP?
Our range of products meant all of the fire curtain requirements were met and the fire regulations could be adhered to keep the occupants of the building safe. Coopers FireMaster Concertina is a great way to offer compartmentation between floors and was installed because there were no columns at the atrium to install side guides and there is no smoke extraction system on the atrium so functional gaps were not allowed.
By installing the FireMaster Concertina meant it would provide the building with an approved, non-invasive means of fire protection that would satisfy the fire regulations as well as ensuring that the open plan design remained as intended. Applications for Compartmentation and Atrium, Lobbies and Receptions were required as part of the fire safety solutions. The 23m long by 5m wide, rectangular, closed FireMaster Concertina was installed around the atrium and due to the modern technology, well-engineered designs and non invasive properties of the products installed, meant it fitted perfectly with this high specification, open plan health care centre.
