ResQ-Window Fire Curtains Installed in new hotel at the refurbished Trocadero Building
what was the client looking for?
The famous Trocadero building in Piccadilly Circus in the West End of London has been converted into a large hotel, consisting of 800 rooms.
This iconic building in the heart of central London will become the home of the first and flagship Zedwell; a new hotel, brand and lifestyle concept constructed to create the perfect environment for the perfect night’s sleep.
The project was awarded to Criterion Capital with a proposed budget of £75m to refurbish the building into multiple hotel rooms. The hotel will also include a bar, restaurant and roof top terrace with views over the London skyline.
The Trocadero hotel will have its own entrance directly from Piccadilly Circus tube station meaning the hotel customers won’t need to leave the building to gain access to the London underground.
The open plan design of the hotel reception, as well as the multitude of corridors and lift lobbies, means that fire curtains offer the perfect solution to ensure the level of fire protection required of 120 minutes fire resistance is provided to the hotel guests and staff.
HOW DID WE HELP?
Coopers Fire were awarded the fire curtain installation by MY Construction and Carpentry who we have worked with on previous projects. Fire curtains with smoke control were installed throughout the hotel as well as several FireMaster ResQ-WindowTM fire curtains at either end of the lift lobbies.
The fire curtain requirement is for 120 minutes integrity and 30 minutes radiation control, which are offered as a minimum of the fire curtain products installed.
A total of 32 standard FireMaster vertical fire curtains with smoke control were installed, ranging from 1.4m wide x 2.5m drop to 4.6m wide x 3.5m drop. Two large FireMaster Plus Wide Single Roller (WSR) fire curtains were also installed at 5.5m wide x 3.2m drop.
The ground breaking FireMaster ResQ-Window fire curtains were installed at either end of the lift lobbies, which allow building occupants and first responders to see through the curtain after it has been deployed, giving the advantage of seeing the presence of fire and smoke as well as a potential rescuee.
Fire curtains were installed for compartmentation. One of the design intents was to have all the internal doors the same. By installing fire curtains over the doors, this design requirement could be satisfied. The fire curtains also protect the main lift lobbies and negate the requirement for a separate lift lobby around the firefighting lift.
