What do RIBA expect from you?
As a Chartered Member of RIBA, you are required to complete and record at least 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year. Of these 35 hours, 20 must cover the 10 mandatory RIBA Core Curriculum CPD topics, and half of your CPD should ideally be structured. CPD activities should be recorded using the RIBA online CPD recording tool, which is audited for compliance. For 2024, the process for recording CPD will change, with a focus on reflecting on each activity rather than accumulating learning points.
CPD activities are flexible, allowing you to choose from a range of structured or informal learning opportunities, whether face-to-face, digital, or accredited by other professional bodies. These activities should align with your personal needs or the needs of your practice. RIBA does not require attendance certificates, and CPD can come from any relevant source. If you have any questions about fulfilling your CPD requirements, RIBA offers support to guide you through the process.
This change means that members will no longer need to attain a specific number of points; instead, they will be asked to reflect on the relevance and impact of each CPD activity they complete. This updated approach aims to encourage more meaningful learning and personal development.
Additionally, members on maternity, paternity, carer, adoption, or long-term sick leave may apply for a deferral, meaning they are not expected to undertake CPD during that period unless they wish to continue their learning.
